2013 Back to home
A longtime summer tradition is reborn and joins an array of events anchored by the Concours d'Elegance at St. John. Whether this will be your first or next of many "Happenings," enjoy the casual atmosphere, celebration of Italian cars, bikes, and the surprises that "happen" on Saturday, July 27. David and Andrea are back to oversee Italian Happening as they did from 1981 to 2006, conducting the chaos and roar as 200+ Italian engines simultaneously clear their throats. Bring your Italian car or bike, pack the blanket, swap lies about your expertise with a row of Webers, and enjoy the camaraderie.
Italian Happening is open to the public, 11 AM to 3 PM, $15 per person. Or show your Italian car or bike, stuff friends onto the seats, fenders, floor, a few enemies in the trunk, and it's a single $20 admission for the car and everyone in it. This ain't your grandfather's concours, it's a festival and picnic. Food and full bar will be available for a picnic while listening to a live string quartet.
Everyone will receive a set of People's Choice ballots, with awards presented at 2 PM. Three volunteers will be drafted to select eight vehicles for display the next day at the entry to the Concours d'Elegance of America.
Italian Happening takes place by the golf course at The Inn at St. John. Follow the banners and enter from Sheldon Road by choosing either the parking lot or the display entrance onto the green. Display vehicles must arrive between 10 and 11 AM. Open to all Italian marques.
Pre-registration for reserving a place to display your car closed July 21. Approximately 75 additional Italian cars and bikes can be admitted at the registration desk between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on the day of the event, until the display field is filled. Look for an "Italian Happening Display" banner to enter the field and register you car.
